The bird that heralds spring

A 21/21cm hand embroidery kit, suitable for stitchers of all levels - from beginner to advanced. The design features a single Stork making its way through an explosion of new Ivy shoots. The inspiration, like the other patterns in this collection, is taken from Medieval Bestiaries. These early naturalists believed a sighting of the Stork signalled the long winter was over and spring was just around the corner. They also believed that Storks were the only creatures that looked after their chicks so lovingly that the chicks readily returned the favour and nursed their parents in their old age.

The embroidery kit is printed on a sunny yellow linen and uses shades of pistachio, ivory and midnight to fill the pattern in. To complete the kit you only need 4 basic stitches - backstitch, whipped backstitch, chain stitch and satin stitch. The kit comes with a sampler and tutorial video to teach you the stitches if you are unsure of all/ any of them.

Included in the kit is:

  • sample pattern to learn all stitches needed

  • design printed on linen

  • 2 tutorial videos

  • 5” wooden hoop

  • 2 needles

  • needle threader

  • skeins of coloured thread

  • cheatsheet.

Stitching time: 10-35 hours (dependent on skill level)
